Biography

How My Passion Began

Born in 1976 in Sainte-Geneviève (Montreal), Melanie Poirier is the eldest of four children. From a young age, she has grown up in an environment where creativity is essential. Writing, drawing, jewelry-making, painting: she passionately explores all means of expression that allow her to translate her inner world into living material.

More about Me

A multidisciplinary artist for over twenty years, Mélanie is also a successful arts entrepreneur. In 2009, she founded Galerie mp tresart, dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art. She has served as a curator since 2011, has directed Les Éditions mp tresart — a publishing house specializing in visual arts and poetry — since 2012, and has led MP Suppart, an artist support service, since 2013.

Inspire the world

A seasoned businesswoman, she has a solid background in sales, marketing, customer service, as well as management, accounting, graphic design, and logistics. Her leadership skills, professionalism, social grace, and creativity make her an inspiring figure and a sought-after advisor in the visual arts community.

Artistic approach

"Every work of art is a permanent possibility of transformation, offered to all human beings." — Octavio Paz

As a multidisciplinary artist, I draw from emotion, memory, and gesture to create living material that takes form on the canvas. My work is part of a search for meaning, an exploration of the invisible and the depths of the soul.

The work of Cy Twombly, with its raw sensitivity, gestural language, and silent poetry, deeply inspires me. Like him, I place a central focus on instinctive lines, the spontaneity of gesture, and the evocative power of signs. This connection stems from a shared affinity: in our practices, space becomes a canvas for emotional writing, where chaos transforms into beauty and abstraction into language.

I create my works by layering textures and materials, sometimes reclaimed — paper, fabric, various fragments — each carrying its own memory. Each canvas develops slowly, like a palimpsest where the visible and the erased coexist. The colors, vibrant and alive, converse with the white space that oxygenates the composition and brings balance. Each brushstroke carries a message of hope, beauty, and joy. The lyrical abstraction I cultivate is enriched by plays of transparency and contrast, inviting the imagination to unfold freely.

Writing, whether legible or suggested, also plays an essential role. Drawn in graphite, it becomes a line, a rhythm, the imprint of intimate thought. It suggests more than it asserts, opening a space for introspection and a silent dialogue with the viewer.

Human relationships, nature, music, and travel nourish my perspective and inject a constant energy into my creative process. Through my series, I explore themes of resilience, metamorphosis, memory, and inner light. My intention goes beyond aesthetics: I seek to awaken, touch, and provoke a resonance.

In essence, my work is a bridge between the inner world and sensory reality, between matter and spirit, between silence and expression. A poetic, singular, and human creation — in which I humbly recognize the imprint of a master like Cy Twombly.
